#EmpathyOverEgo
#EmpathyOverEgo To be honest, I’m not looking forward to this political season. With dear friends on all sides, it breaks my heart to see the distress, anger and pain, as loved ones pick each other apart and break over a difference of opinion. I believe that it’s important to stand up for the things I believe in. And it’s equally important for you to do the same. But unfortunately, the internet has created a world not only where people are misunderstood… but also a world where we can hide behind our screens and forget to choose empathy. So today I’m challenging myself (& you!) to choose empathy over ego in this political season and beyond. The reason we get so heated in the hard conversations is because we care. But guess what! So does the human on the other end of your conversation. We each hold certain values, beliefs, and ideals for a very specific reason. Every single one of us has their own story on which these convictions are built. And for the most part, no one intends harm by holding their specific beliefs. On the contrary, most of us hold these opinions because we truly believe that our views will ultimately help the world the most… Isn’t that why you believe what you do?
We must not forget to give each other the benefit of the doubt and to practice empathy when we have these discussions.
Because when we lead with love and compassion we’re a thousand times closer to making a real difference. When we walk into a conversation with someone with opposing beliefs, we do not have to agree with them but I guarantee you that there is something we can learn from each other when we walk with an open and tender heart. If we could set aside our egos, and see other humans the way the Lord does, I believe so much progress would be made. Not one of us holds every single right answer. That’s just a fact (sorry, not sorry). However, each one of us brings something valuable to the table. So will you help me spread love in your own individual community? Will you (try to) take your ego out of the hard conversations? Will you continue to stand up for what you believe in while having empathy for the one who sits across from you (in person and online)? Together, we can make a difference. Together, we can change the world. Will you help me?
With love,
