Fall Creek Falls State Park | Hiking & Camping Checklist

A couple of weeks ago, Josiah and I went on a little camping getaway! We always enjoy camping because it's budget-friendly, relaxing and gives us time & space to connect on a deeper level. On this trip, we visited Fall Creek Falls in Spencer, TN which is just 2 hours East of Nashville. I've been wanting to visit for a while because of the gorgeous waterfalls. Even though it hadn't rained in a while, the scenery did not disappoint. Our site was fully-shaded which is an absolute MUST. Protip: make sure you look at the photo of your campsite before booking it (they usually have a thumbnail size photo when you're looking at the availability). This can help you see how shaded it really is and how private the site would be. The only downside to this particular location was that you couldn't move the picnic table. This may sound random, but we like to be able to move it around for more convenience.
Campsite Checklist
- Full Shaded Site
- Electrical Outlets
- Water Spigot
- Move-able Picnic Table
- Check the map for a spot that backs up to the tree-line, not other tents
- Location close to the bathroom... but not TOO close
- Check to see if there is a fire ban. If so, make sure you bring a propane grill because charcoal won't be allowed!
Waterfall Hike
We chose the Fall Creek Falls and Cane Creek Falls looped trail. It was absolutely gorgeous, a nice workout and full of great views. The hike started by crossing over a suspension bridge that would only allow 6 people to cross at a time. Because we went at a busier time, we actually had to wait a few minutes before it was our turn. Word to the wise, your dog might not enjoy this part too much! We didn't complete the trail by going all the way down to the base of the falls - apparently it gets very rocky and scary for dogs.
Hiking Checklist

- Choose a trail that loops

- Lightweight backpack with a cooler (this one is super cute!)
- Water bottle (I've heard great things about hydro flasks!). Hydration is KEY, especially if you're fighting migraines like me.
- Collapsable water bowl and a padded double-handle leash for your pup! I use this bowl and this leash.
Overall, visiting Fall Creek Falls was a great experience and I'd definitely recommend camping or hiking there!
