5 Tools To Lose Weight
If you are one of my more recent blogging friends, you may not know that 3 years ago I was 50 pounds overweight. After college, my metabolism slowed way down and I gained those extra LBS before I even realized it.
It took time, consistency, and self-determination to lose it (and a little more!), but I am so happy that I did! So I wanted to share a few of the tools I used to help me get back into a healthy and happy shape! If you are trying to lose weight, I hope these can help you on your journey!
I'm sure you've heard of this one before, and maybe you have even tried it... but this was the biggest key to losing weight for me. By tracking calories I found that I was eating more than I thought when I did rough estimations of serving sizes. It helped keep me honest with what I was putting into my body and brought me to terms with some of those ugly truths.
Side note - it's also been so incredibly helpful to count carbs for my diabetic hubby!
2. Food Scale
This goes along with My Fitness Pal. It helps keep you honest about those serving sizes... eye-balling it does not always do the trick unfortunately :/
3. YouTube
While I did a few Groupons for yoga and other workouts, I found that it was just too expensive to go to Yoga regularly.... but I LOVED doing yoga. It really helped to get my mind and body feeling good in the morning, and that made it easier to stick to healthier eating throughout the rest of the day. I highly recommend Tara Stiles' Yoga Solution!
4. Skinny Mom
This was a go-to for tasty recipes at half the calorie-cost!
OK... this may not count as a tool, but whatever! I have a big sweet tooth, so it was really tough to completely cut out sweets. I did (rather begrudgingly) until I found Halo Top! Their ice cream is insane.... the calories are crazy low (we're talking 240-360 calories a PINT!!), and yet I prefer the taste to regular store-bought ice cream! You can find them at most Krogers and Whole Foods (sometimes they're hidden in the organic section).
Highly recommended flavors: Birthday Cake, Oatmeal Cookie, and Red Velvet
Stay away from: Chocolate
Hopefully this was helpful! Let me know what your favorite weight-loss tools are in the comments!
Until next time,
