"Yes" Girl

Yes-Girl.png

I was a "yes" girl.

I worked through the night in hopes of rising to the top of my company.

Answering emails before 5AM so my bosses would know how hard I was working.

I was proud of my 60+ hour work week. I called it the American Dream.

Somehow the term #GirlBoss became twisted. It translated into working yourself to the ground.

One approving email from my boss and I was on top of the world - forgetting about those 2AM tears and unrealistic expectations.

And when the project wasn't perfect? Oh the torment I felt.

I was a "yes" girl... the need for approval girl.

But not anymore.

Because...

Being a "yes" girl, meant taking myself for granted. It meant not taking care of myself, my relationships, or my purpose.

I let a job and my need for approval come before everything else.

I thought it only affected my happiness, but that was simply untrue. My husband had to go through that time, too. My friendships were neglected. I worried my parents.

You see... being a "yes" girl hurt the ones I love. Being a "yes" girl was selfish

So the question is, where do you go from here?

I'm really not sure. As usual, I am a work in progress.

The one thing I know, is that when I stop letting others define my worth, I am set free. When I choose to be who God made me to be, I find my worth in an entirely new light.

The only one who gets to tell me my worth is the one who created me.

So let's seek that truth in scripture...

Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. - Galatians 1:10

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. - 2 Corinthians 5:17

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. - Genesis 1:27

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. - Romans 12:2

Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. - Matthew 6:34

The Lord says, ‘I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. - Psalm 32:8

Until next time,
