Trusting God In The Journey

If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me,
And the light around me will be night,”
Even the darkness is not dark to You,
And the night is as bright as the day.
Darkness and light are alike to You.

Psalm 139:11-12

As many of you know, I've been dealing with crippling migraines. In the last few years they have gotten incrementally worse and are now to the point where the medicine I had been taking for them stopped working. They're honestly infuriating. I hate cancelling plans, missing events and getting behind on work.

When I'm in the middle of an attack, it's so hard to open my eyes (literally & figuratively) to the truth that God is with me in that struggle. I relate so much to the Psalmist when he says "Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, and the light around me will be night."

In those moments I often forget the part that comes next: "Even the darkness is not dark to You, and the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to you."

God knows our every outcome. In our darkest moments, He sees clearly to the end. When we feel overwhelmed by the night, He is guiding us through... if we let Him.

I don't understand why I am going through these physical struggles and to be completely honest, I'm not happy about it. But instead of sitting in the darkness, I'm choosing to let God take the lead. I'm trying to choose to see the good and trust Him in my journey to wholeness. Whether that is in this life or the next.

The more I look for the good, the more I see it. Josiah and I have changed our diets in so many ways to find the nutritional balance that's best for my body. Regardless of the migraines, we are eating healthier than we ever have... something we might not have done unless this had happened to us. Josiah bends over backwards finding new recipes, researching things that might help and takes care of me when I'm in the middle of a migraine. His incredible selfless love is such an obvious example of God raining down blessings in the midst of a broken world.

How do you let God take the lead in your life when you're in the midst of a struggle? How do you learn to trust Him when things just don't make sense? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

With love,

How to trust God with the journey of your life
